Before I was a photographer, I was a mother. And I remember those first days with my own baby — the awe, the exhaustion, the absolute disbelief that something so small could make the world feel so enormous. I also remember not having photographs that truly captured it. That's a big part of why I do what I do.
It's not supposed to be 'Perfect'
I will never tell you that your little one is always going to be completely settled the whole session, that there is never going to be a little throw up or maybe even a blow out.
What I will tell you is that we will take all the time we need to help your baby feel as settled as possible, we will stop for feeds and nappy changes when we need to. Try different poses if your little one just wants to be held and I will never stress about a little mess if it happens (because it does happen sometimes)
All these little things are what is real about newborn life, moments that might not make it into your final gallery but also moments that I hope will just make you laugh and feel at ease knowing it is totally normal.
You don't need to do anything!
I bring with me everything we need for our in home session. The backdrop I use even means you don't have to get your house 'photo ready' because no one will see it!
I will guide you through the whole session, offer breaks when we need it and even settle your little one when they need it!
Your only job is to relax and enjoy this exciting experience you get to have with your new baby!
The images that mean the most to you won't be the obvious ones
In almost every session I shoot, some of the most extraordinary images come from the unremarkable moments — the way a dad stares at his baby while she feeds, a toddler pressing their nose to their new sibling's cheek, the quiet five minutes when everyone is finally still. I shoot documentary style as much as I shoot portraits, because real life is where the real photographs live.
Being a Mum makes me even better at this
Even though I have worked with children and newborns for the last 12 years of my career, there is nothing that could have taught me more about little ones than becoming a mother myself.
I can understand what you might be feeling, recommend what your little one might need to settle, work my magic to get them to sleep when they are fighting it and just ultimately...I get it.
There is nothing your baby could do to throw me off or 'ruin' the session. Ive seen it all and I can handle it all!
