If you're expecting a baby and you've started thinking about newborn photography, chances are you've found yourself down a rabbit hole of beautiful images, soft light, tiny fingers, that unmistakable new-baby smell you can almost sense through the screen. But if you're not sure what an in-home newborn session actually looks like in practice, this post is for you.
Why In-Home Newborn Photography Works So Well
My newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. I have found this is the perfect way to have your memories captured while still preserving that precious newborn bubble and allowing you and your little one time to heal and connect.
Using simple posing and natural light, we will create a gallery of images which best reflect the real version of your new family.
Simply your family, your memories, in the place you feel most comfortable.
What Happens on the Day
I'll arrive at your home at a time that suits you and your baby's loose routine. Usually mid-morning when newborns tend to be most settled. You don't need to tidy up, prep a nursery, or worry about having the perfect backdrop. I bring everything I need, and I work with your light and your space to find the most beautiful corners of your home.
The session itself is relaxed and unhurried. We follow the baby's lead feeding breaks, nappy changes, cuddle pauses are all completely expected and absolutely fine. There's no rush, no clock watching, and no pressure to perform.
What to Wear (And What Not to Worry About)
I always suggest soft, neutral tones for parents, creams, warm whites, browns or denims. I generally try to avoid bold logos or busy patterns, which can distract from the connection between you and your baby. But honestly? The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. Comfortable people make the most natural, beautiful photographs.
You will receive a full welcome guide with everything you need to know about clothing and what I bring with me!
When Should You Book?
Newborn sessions are best captured in the first ten to fourteen days of life, when babies are at their most sleepy and curled. For this reason, I'd recommend booking your session during your pregnancy — many families in Kent book between twenty and thirty weeks to secure their preferred slot. I keep a small number of spaces open each month for early arrivals or flexible dates, so do get in touch even if you're already close to your due date.
If you're local to Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Ashford, or the wider Kent and South East England area and you're looking for a stress-free, natural newborn photographer who genuinely loves what she does, I'd love to hear from you. Get in touch through my contact page and let's have a chat.
