There's a window, right at the beginning. It's shortand it passes before most parents have even caught their breath. The curled-up posture, the sleepy sighs, the way your newborn fits so perfectly in the crook of your arm. These early days are extraordinary, and they go fast.
Why the first two weeks are best for a photoshoot
In the first one to two weeks of life, newborns spend the vast majority of their time in deep, peaceful sleep. This is the golden window for natural, lifestyle newborn photography babies are easier to settle, more comfortable in gentle positions, and perfectly content to be held, swaddled, and adored on camera. After around two weeks, the startle reflex kicks in more strongly and babies become lighter sleepers, making sessions longer and trickier.
Booking Early Is the Key
As a newborn and family photographer serving families across Kent, including Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, and Ashford, I recommend booking your session during pregnancy, generally between twenty and thirty weeks.
This means I have your due date in my diary, I can reach out as soon as your baby arrives, and we can schedule your in-home session within that precious first fortnight. I work with a limited number of families each month to make sure every session gets the time and care it deserves.
How flexible is my session date?
Of course, babies arrive on their own schedule. If your little one decides to make an early entrance, or your due date shifts, please don't worry! I build flexibility into how I work so that we can always accommodate the unexpected. The most important thing is that when your baby is here, I'm ready and your session is already planned.
